Jim’s story: a way forward on his own terms

A collision on a dual carriageway
Jim was riding along a dual carriageway when a truck changed lanes and collided with him.
He suffered multiple injuries, including severe damage to his lower left leg. The months that followed involved extensive treatment and uncertainty about his recovery.
A difficult and deeply personal decision
Over the following 12 months, doctors attempted to save Jim’s leg. NHS surgeons explored the available options, but the outcome remained uncertain.
Jim faced a difficult choice: continue with attempts to save the leg, or consider amputation and begin rehabilitation sooner.
It was a decision with consequences for his life far beyond the legal claim.
Support throughout the process
Our solicitor supported Jim through his claim and the personal challenges surrounding the choice he faced.
That meant helping him navigate the legal process while recognising the emotional reality of his situation. The decision about his treatment remained Jim’s own.
He ultimately chose to proceed with a below-knee amputation. He now says it was the right decision for him.
Rebuilding his life and staying connected to biking
Jim received compensation in the region of £1 million, helping him rebuild his life after the collision.
He has also remained part of the motorcycling world. Today, he rides a heavily modified Triumph Bobber. The modifications reflect his own enthusiasm for changing and personalising his bike.
Jim’s story is about finding a way forward that worked for him: with support through a difficult claim, space for a personal decision and a continuing connection to biking.
