Linda’s story: finding a way forward after life-changing injuries

A crash with life-changing consequences
Linda was a retired woman travelling as a pillion passenger when the motorcycle she was on was involved in a serious crash.
She suffered several injuries, including an above-knee amputation. The impact on her life extended beyond the injury itself: she was also facing the possible loss of something that mattered deeply to her.
The concern she had not yet shared
During the early stages of her claim, our solicitor visited Linda several times to discuss her recovery and the legal process.
Despite those conversations, there was a sense that something was still troubling her. Eventually, Linda explained what was weighing on her most. She believed she would never be able to travel as a pillion passenger again.
For Linda, losing that connection to motorcycling was devastating. Understanding this concern helped us see more clearly what support meant to her.
Support beyond the legal claim
Our solicitors’ experience as long-time motorcyclists helped them understand why this mattered so much.
We were able to explain that some people with limb loss continue to ride motorcycles or travel as pillion passengers. We also introduced Linda to the National Association for Bikers with a Disability (NABD), a charity supporting disabled riders.
Those conversations helped Linda see that there were people, support and a biking community she could explore as she considered her future.
With advice and support, she was able to look ahead differently.
More than £1.5 million to help rebuild her life
Linda’s claim ultimately settled for over £1.5 million, providing financial security to help her rebuild her life.
The settlement was an important part of that outcome. So was taking the time to understand the personal concern behind her questions and helping her find a connection to the biking community.
